After seeing how well received the crochet cropped sweater vest was on the Yarnalina blog, I thought that I should add a knit version to the mix as well! Since it is also the summer season, and I’ve been making quite a handful of summer tops including this crochet gingham bandeau top, I eventually settled on making a knit beginner cropped sweater vest pattern for the blog!
Inspiration & Description & Process
Ever since picking up my knitting needles again, I’ve always been itching to try making more knitwear for my closet in addition to the crochet pieces I’ve made. And after realizing I had two cakes of the Sugar N Cream 100% cotton yarn from a rash Joann’s purchase, I decided that a small knit piece would be perfect for the cool summer. It was a perfect combination as I later found a discontinued blue Sugar N Cream cone yarn that I bought, yet never finished, when I first started crocheting years ago. And before you know it, I had my brainstorm image for the knit cropped sweater vest complete.
I’ve always deemed knit as less forgiving as crochet, since—in my opinion at least—crochet is easier to fix if there are any mistakes. Though through making this knit piece, which was definitely more intricate than the knit tube top that I had made a while ago, I definitely gained a lot more confidence in designing knit pieces in the future.
If there were anything I should’ve changed for the project, I would’ve made the vest a little less cropped than I did, but nonetheless I’m too lazy to rip it apart and redo the body panels and sleeves. So it’ll just have to do with a high waisted pant as it’s partner outfit for the rest of its stay in my closet.
It was a really simple project to create and great for customization too, you could create this knit beginner sweater vest in any color you prefer such as brown, black, white, red, green, or pink.

Creating more handmade pieces for my closet and for the Yarnalina blog is something I’ve been trying to do more ever since receiving many comments and likes for the fan favorite pattern: crochet cropped sweater vest. Assembly
Sew the front and back panel together on the sides and top of the shoulder panels while leaving space for the arm holes on the side.
Sleeves
